Frequently asked questions
Is Barwo Split really free?
Yes. Scanning a receipt, splitting items and getting your cent-accurate shares costs nothing and needs no sign-up. Creating a free account only adds extras: saved split history, people profiles for your regular dining group, and PDF downloads of past splits.
What happens to my receipt photo?
Your photo is used to read the line items, and the copy we keep is stored privately on our server — it is never published or shared. Unclaimed receipts are automatically deleted after 7 days. If you save a split to your account, its receipt is kept with the split so you can revisit it later.
How do you split the cents fairly?
Every share is computed in exact fractional cents, then reconciled so the individual shares always add up to the bill to the penny. When everyone shares equally, no one pays more than a cent difference from anyone else — the leftover cents are folded into the tax and tip line, never dropped.
How are tax and tip handled?
Tax and tip follow each person’s food. If you skip the dessert, you do not subsidise it: your tax and tip are proportional to the dishes you actually paid for.
My friend skipped a dish — can they pay less?
That is exactly what per-item splitting is for. After adding your group, tap which people shared each dish. Anyone left off an item pays nothing of it, and the cost is divided among the people who had it.
Which currencies does it support?
You can enter bills in any currency — the split is pure arithmetic, so dollars, euros, pounds, rupees or yen all work. The symbol you pick follows through to the review page, the result and the PDF.
Can I save or re-open an old split?
Yes, with a free account. Every split you complete while signed in is saved with its full history, so you can re-open any earlier version, re-download it as a PDF, or reload it to tweak the shares. You can also install Barwo Split as an app on your phone.
